Photosynthesis is the process in which
green plants uses light from the sun
to make sugar for food.
Plants will need carbon dioxide and water
to make oxygen and sugar known as glucose.6CO2 + 6H2O --[light]--> C6H12O6 + 6O2What is Photosynthesis?

Trees/PlantsPlants are unique. Instead of eating
other animals, they make their own food. Things
that make their own food are known as autotrophs.
To make their food, they take in water, carbon
dioxide, and sunlight through their leaves and start
their process of photosynthesis.

SunThe sun can be a strange thing. For
example, sunlight energy moves in
waves. In fact, the waves are actually
made of different colors, like a rainbow.

Individual LeafIn each leaf, there is a little tiny thing
called chloroplasts. Chloroplasts uses light
energy to make water and carbon dioxide into
sugar to make food for itself. Chloroplasts are
green because they contain a pigment that is
called chlorophyll that the chloroplast uses to get
the energy in light. The pigment of chlorophyll
is the color green which makes chloroplast green.

Light-Dependent ReactionThis is the first step into the process of
photosynthesis. When water and sunlight
enter the plant, it goes through the process of
photosynthesis to make ATP and NADPH energy.
Then, the two hydrogen atoms that is in water stay
and the oxygen atom gets released as waste.

Light-Dependent Reaction (Calvin Cycle)This is the second step into the process
of photosynthesis.Carbon dioxide and ATP
and NADPH energy is used to transfer the sun's
energy into glucose.

What affects Photosynthesis?Carbon Dioxide: The more carbon
dioxide the plant takes in. the faster the
process of photosynthesis will go.

Water: Having too little water can cause the
stomata to shut and the plant can not have
carbon dioxide which slows photosynthesis down.

Temperature: If temperature is too high or too low,
this can change the shape of the enzymes.

Light intensity: Light can increase the rate of
photosynthesis but, too much can kill the plant.

What happens to glucose?Once plants have glucose (sugar), its either
broken apart in the mitochondria and
used to make ATP energy, linked
together to make the plants body, or
eaten by other things & used for
their energy.Photosynthesis can be important for
other than just plants. It supplies other living things
with oxygen and energy that a living thing
needs so it could live.
