Once upon a time there was a brain named Bob. He
was a very curious brain, always trying to learn new
things. One day, he wanted to discover what he was
made of. The very first thing he learned was that he
has two sides to him known as the LEFT
HEMISPHERE, which controls the right side of his
body and the RIGHT HEMISPHERE, which controls
the left side of his body. These two halves talk to
each other through a nerve bundle called the
CORPUS CALLOSUM.
First, he discovered he was made of four LOBES. The
FRONTAL LOBE is in Bob's forehead helps him make
good decisions and lets him talk. The PARIETAL
LOBE is on top of the head lets Bob feel how soft his
kitty is. The OCCIPITAL LOBE is at the back of Bob's
head and lets him see what a pretty day it is. The
TEMPORAL LOBE is just above his ears and lets him
hear the songs of the birds. Attached to the bottom of
the lobes is the CEREBELLUM which is the oldest part
of the brain and lets Bob pay attention without even
realizing it.
Below the cerebellum, Bob has even more crazy brain
functions. These functions are all part of the
RETICULAR ACTIVATING SYSTEM and LOWER
BRAIN. The PONS is just in front of the cerebellum
and lets Bob relax after a long day of thinking. The
MEDULLA is connected to the bottom of the pons and
allows Bob to breathe and his heart to beat without
him even thinking about it! The SPINAL CORD is at
the bottom of the medulla and connects Bob to the
rest of his body.
Towards the center of Bob's brain is the LIMBIC
SYSTEM. In this system, there's the THALAMUS,
which tells all the signals in Bob where they need to
go and the HYPOTHALAMUS, which tells Bob if he's
had too much cake or if he's too cold. The
PITUITARY GLAND that tells him if he's happy or
not. The AMYGDALA is why Bob is afraid of spiders
and the dark. And the HIPPOCAMPUS helps Bob
remember your name and his Mommy's birthday.
