Joshua became 

the leader of the 

children of Israel 

after Moses died.

He sent two spies to 

Jericho to scope out 

the land. The spies 

came to the house of 

of a harlot named 

Rahab and lodged 

there. 

The King of Jericho 

found out that Rahab 

was housing the two 

spies. He said to 

Rahab " Bring out the 

men who have come to 

you, who have entered 

your house, for they 

have come to search 

out all the country."

Then Rahab told the King that the men did 

come to her but escaped during the night and 

that they should pursue them quickly. When 

the men had gone she shut the gate and went 

to the two spies that she had hidden on the 

roof and said " I know that the Lord has 

given you the land...Now therefore, i beg 

you, swear to me by the Lord, since i have 

shown you kindness, that you also will show 

kindness to my fathers house, and give me a 

true token, and spare my father, my mother, 

my brothers, my sisters, and all that they 

have, and deliver our lives from death.

So the men told 

her that when the 

land is given to 

the children of 

Israel that they 

will deal kindly 

and truly with 

her. Then Rahab 

let these men 

down by a rope 

through the 

window because 

her home was on 

the city wall.

The men told   Rahab 

before they left to 

"bind this line of 

scarlet cord in the 

window through 

which you let us 

down and bring your 

family into your 

home and don't let 

anyone out until the 

land is delivered into 

the hands of the 

children of Israel."

So the two spies departed and went back 

to Joshua and told him all that had 

happened to them in Jericho.   They said 

to Joshua "Truly the Lord has delivered 

all the land into our hands, for indeed all 

the inhabitants of the country are 

fainthearted because of us.
