Geography was the first unit we learned. We learned
longitude and latitude plus continent names and names of
oceans. the geography unit was the easiest unit of the
year, the bell work was easy because the terms were
well-known to everyone, it was just pretty much a review.

After we learned about geography we continued into
economies and government. An economy is what consists
of the trade, production or distribution of a country. There
are a lot of different economies such as the following: A
traditional economic system is one in which each new
generation keeps the economic position of its parents and
grandparents. Market economies are based on consumers
and their buying decisions rather than under government
control. Market trends and product popularity generate
what businesses produce. In a command economy, the
government controls all economic activity. One example
of a command economy is communism. A mixed economy
combines qualities of market and command systems into
one.

After we were finished with economics we went into
government. Much like the types of economy there are
many forms of government, they are as follows: A tribal
rule is when the members of the tribe make decisions and
chiefs or elders make the final decisions. Direct
Democracies are controlled by all adults voting on
decisions. Every person is one vote so it is fair. This
would not work in large countries because there are too
many people, only in city-states would this form of
government be appropriate. Representative Democracies
or republics are governed by representatives that the
people vote for. Those representatives make laws. If the
people are not happy they can choose not to reelect that
person. Most have a constitution or set of laws that limits
the representatives power.

constitutional monarchy is when there is a king or queen
but doesn't have ALL the power. they have very little
power. Parliament (elected representatives) make laws.
has a constitution. A dictator ship is ruled by one leader
that has not been elected and can use force to keep
power. dictators usually deny power to their people. in an
absolute monarchy the king or queen has all the power.
Born into ruling family (inherited power). This was also the
most famous type or government until 200 years ago. An
oligarchy is controlled by a small group of people. they can
be elected people, leaders of the military, religious leaders
and political party leaders.

guatama. their god is named buddha. Christianity was
founded by jesus christ in 33 C.E. their god is called god.
Islam was founded by muhamad in 610 B.C. their god is

african geography wasn't the most interesting topic but i
think you'll get through it. Africa has about 53 or 54
countries that are all divided into 5 regions they are:
north africa, south africa, west africa, east africa and
central africa. North africas terrain has Rocky mountains,
Endless deserts and the Sahara Desert. south africa is flat
has a lot of grasslands, rainforests,l swamps and two
major deserts Namib and kalahari. west africa is a
populated region and all grasslands. east africa has
mountains, plateaus and grasslands. Central africa has
mostly rainforests with the congo rainforest and congo
river. It gets a lot of rain.

it took many years for africa to form, they weare all very
different, but had something in common. They all
depended on trade. East African Kingdoms developed on
the coast of the Red Sea. They traded and controlled the
major ports that moved goods from Europe to Asia. west
Africa has a large amount of gold resources. West African
kingdoms would trade their gold to North African nomads
for salt. West african trade routes were very big, reaching
from the coast all the way to about central africa. there
was a lot of gold in west africa toward the north coast.
Trade also allows for the exchange of, ideas, customs,
religion and beliefs.

Once we were done with africa we moved onto ancient
egypt. Ancient egypt was formed around the nile river.
The egyptians formed around the nile river because it had
fertile soil and you could build houses out of the mud by
drying bricks. Another plus to have the nile as a home is
that every year the nile flooded, this is a plus because the
egyptians found ways to control the flooding. They did
this by building canals to water crops and strengthening
the riverbanks with sticks and rocks. The Egyptians were
also very skilled with boat building wich made trade much
easier having the river as transport. there was also a plant
called papyrus, what this plant did was helped the
egyptians come jp with the first form of paper "papyr".

China, which takes upmnost of east asis land, is made
mainly of mountains, highlands and plateaus. Plateau of
Tibet and Himalaya Mountains. About 50 million years ago,
a huge piece of a continent collided with Asia, causing the
ground to buckle and fold. This collision formed the
Plateau of Tibet and the Himalaya Mountains.
The Plateau of Tibet is a huge highland area that lies north
of the Himalaya mountains. The Himalaya Mountains are
the tallest in the world and include Mount Everest, the
tallest mountain in the world. Chang and Huang Rivers
They begin in the Tibet Plateau and flow east to the East
China Sea The rivers provide fertile soil
The majority of people in China live near or on the banks
of these two rivers.

China was split up into regions and had a lot of dynasties
(one ruling family for a period of time). there was a lot of
violence in their history but most of their world thrived
because of the smart emporers they had.

the silk road is not a road of silk, it is a trade route
established for trade and as trade goes many things
besides objects were exchanged like religion and culture
and so on. There was also a man named marco polo who
traveled to china and wrote a diary of his travels that can
still be read today.
