In the first chapter of the book it was nice, because
Amari(the slave) was engaged to be married. Then she has
a family that loved her. I thought it was going to be like
that forever but, that happiness ended when the white men
came and raided her village. After reading this book, my
whole perspective has changed. It made me think "what if
we still slaves being sold or forced into slavery?" This
book is so descriptive you will definitely feel like you
was a part of the story. All in all I would be more than
happy to read this book again.

Reading this book it invoked sadness, anger,
laughter, and smiles. I was sad when they killed almost her
entire village including her parents and her little brother.
The part that made me angry was when Mr. Derby killed
his wife's black lover Noah, and then killed the baby that
was conceived by them. When he did that it actually made
me despise him. I laughed when Polly tied Clay(the
Derby's son) up to the pole so they can run away. That's
what he gets for treating her like a dog and sexually
abusing her. Finally, I smiled when Amari, Tidbit, and
Polly ran away to freedom. That was the happiest moment
ever!!!

In this book there are no real connections
between my life and this book. This book doesn't
remind me of anyone else's life that I know. This book
doesn't remind me of any book, but it does remind me
of the Africans or African Americans being forced into
slavery. That's the only connection I have made
between the real world and this book.

If I could be a character or acquire a trait. I
would like to be Amari. She is strong, brave, and
courageous. Amari endured the pains of being beat and
sexually abused every single day of her teenage life.
There is nothing I would change about this character.

If I was the author I wouldn't change a thing
about this book. The title of the book "Copper Sun"
reminds me of fire. The fire represents how it afflicted
destruction on Amari's homeland. In the book it also
means a fresh start in life and freedom.

There are lots of questions I have that
are unanswered. My first question was
"What happen to Clay (the Derby's son)?"
"What did they do when Amari, Polly, and
Tidbit escaped?" These are the questions I
would like to ask the author.

I don't think it was an idea. It was more like a
thought. The thought was "what if slavery was never
abolished?", "what will the world be like now?" If slavery
was never abolish we wouldn't probably know how to
keep ourselves alive. This generation is so spoiled and
ungrateful, they probably don't know what being
thankful is or mean. If we were slaves we would
probably be crying and cowarding off in a corner
somewhere. This generation doesn't know how to
survive based on will power and intellect. Reading this
book help me to understand the struggles of our people
and how hard their lives was.

This was a poem that was in the book called "Heritage"
Heritage
By Countee Cullen
What is Africa to me:
Copper sun or scarlet sea,
Jungle star or jungle track,
Strong bronzed men, or regal
women from whose loin I sprang
When the birds of Eden sang?
One three centuries removed
From the scenes his father loved,
Spicy grove,cinnamon tree
What is Africa to me?
This poem to me describes what Africa is like. This poem is saying how we descended
from Africa through our ancestors and our late grandparents. She is saying That Africa
is like a paradise. This poem talks about how strong African men and women really
are. Reading this poem gives me a little insight on what Africa is like.

After reading this book I learned more about
the struggle of African slavery. Reading this book
made me appreciate the values of life. I learned
how the slave trade worked and how they lived
their daily lives. Reading this book gave me a
descriptive insight of how slaves live.
