Once upon a time in an underwater
wonderland called Starfish City, there lived
a merman named John. John was a nice
fellow married to his beautiful wife,
Abagail. Abagail was an elegant, graceful,
and glowing mermaid, the type you could
love forever, and John did.
One day, as John and Abagail swam
through their local coral reef, bubbles
began to stir on the surface of the
water. Two unknown, black figures, with
legs swam towards the peaceful pair. In
a flash, Abagail was tied up and taken
back to the boat belonging to the
humans. John, scared and confused,
tried to fight back, but the humans
sailed away in their giant boat.
John was left alone in Starfish City.
Everything in the familiar town
reminded him of his lost wife, Abagail.
He needed to get out. And so, he
packed up his belongings and moved
across the sea to Rock Bottom.
Although John lived in Rock Bottom for
several years, he failed to meet any of
his neighbors. He spent most of his days
alone inside of his sand shack counting
and collecting his most valuable
possessions, sand dollars.
At the highest point of Rock Bottom
stood a sand castle belonging to the
majestic Finn twins, Tyler and Matthew.
Tyler, the naughty twin, decided to play
a prank on his brother, Matthew. He
stole his speedy, red seahorse to take
for a swim. While riding the seahorse
around the outskirts of Rock Bottom,
Tyler tangled himself in a patch of
seaweed.
Not knowing how to untangle the sea horse
from the seaweed, Tyler swam around
Rock Bottom in search of help until he
stumbled upon John's sand shack. Tyler
swam into the tiny shack to see if John
could free the poor seahorse, but instead
found a beautiful collection of sand dollars
neatly organized on the floor of the shack.
Being the naughty merman he was, Tyler
left his brothers sea horse tangled in the
seaweed and swam away with the sand
dollars.
Tyler left the shack before John
returned from his trip of collecting sand
dollars. As John entered the shack, he
saw the rows of beautiful sand dollars
had disappeared. Confused, John
searched around the entire shack for
the sand dollars. He checked next to the
shell phone and under the sand mat,
but the sand dollars were no where to
be found.
John was heartbroken. He felt
the same loneliness he had
before when Abagail was taken
from him by the scary humans.
If only he had something to
make him feel whole again.
Although John was sad, he had hope he
could find his precious sand dollars.
John swam out of his sand shack to
begin the search when a huge current
came. John was strong enough to swim
against the current, but he saw a
mermaid, named Mary who was holding
an egg, struggling against the strength
of the mighty waves.
John swam over to the mermaid, but as he
tried to grab hold of her to bring her to safety,
the Mermaid got pushed into the current and
let go of her egg, leaving it without a mother,
floating through the water. John swam and
rescued the egg, but the mermaid was too far
away to reach. John tried to swim to the
mermaid, but he was slow against the current.
As loud as the mermaid could yell, she told
John to bring the egg back to safety and let
her go. John swam back to his sand shack
holding the egg tight in his hands.
After the fierce waves had calmed down,
John swam outside of his shack to find the
mother of the egg. The mermaid was no
where to be found, but there was a familiar
rope necklace laying on a mound of sand
with a beautiful pink seashell that read:
"Mary". He remembered the mermaid wore
the same necklace so he picked it up and
headed towards the sand castle to see if
anyone knew the owner of the necklace
and the mother of the egg.
Because the Finn Twins knew almost
everyone in Rock Bottom, John went to
the beautiful sand castle to ask Matthew
and Tyler if they knew the mermaid who
wore the necklace. John found Matthew
alone in his castle. He approached
Matthew and showed him the necklace.
Lying, Matthew said that he had never
seen the necklace before even though
he knew Mary very, very well.
Leaving the castle, John
returned to his home where he
left the new found egg
comfortably on a chair. After a
few moments of thinking, John
decided that the mermaid egg
came to him for a reason and
that he would keep and raise it.
10 years later, John
and his adopted
mermaid daughter
Elizabeth lived together
happily as they had for
the past ten years.
Elizabeth loved John very
much, she knew that he was
not her real father but he was
the one who raised her and
taught her everything she
needed to know. Therefore,
she thought of him as her
father and called him dad.
