My Baseline ...
One of the worst parts about teaching is that there can
come a time when you begin to feel "comfortable." This is
a scary time.
For me, this meant that I was no longer taking those
risks that really elevate both teaching and learning. I was
stuck in the rut of knowing what I taught and feeling like I
was teaching it well.
I felt like I had hit the brick wall ... AND THEN ... I began
my journey with the technology cohort -
In the Beginning ...
As class began, I was out of my comfort zone
from the start. My mind swirled and focused only
on that which I was unfamiliar. I was afraid!
Soon, I began to gain confidence and to accept
that I could be a learner and move forward at a
pace that was perfect for me. One that pushed
me out of my comfort zone, but not off the edge
of the stratosphere.
My AHA Moment ...
It was at our third face-to-face session, when I
realized, I can do this! I can use and interact
with technology with confidence.
This moment arose with my group project
developed on Digital Citizenship.
I found that I was proud of the work we had
done and excited to share our learning and
understanding of the topic
The Impact on the Classroom ...
The greatest impact has been on my student's
engagement in the classroom. Kids LOVE
technology and are far more adaptable than I
have been.
I have found that as I let go (a bit) of my fear of
failure and let the kids have more freedom to try
and try and try again, they are learning more
than just the curriculum.
They are learning how to be learners! What an
amazing gift I am now giving them!
that learning is all about the
journey,
not just the destination!
