It was Dollar Duck's 5th birthday!

Mom and Dad gave Dollar Duck a new baseball and glove. Grandma and Grandpa gave him $25.00 and Aunt Suzy gave him $10.00. Dollar Duck was very happy!

Dollar Duck asked Dad if he could buy a bat to go with his baseball and glove.
Dad said "Yes, you can use your birthday money."

Dollar Duck went to go find his birthday money. He looked under his bed but it was not there.

Dollar Duck checked his piggy bank.
Nope, not there.

Dollar Duck looked in his dresser drawer, not there either. He checked his backpack but it was not there.

Dollar Duck was starting to worry.
Where did he put his birthday money?

Dollar Duck had to go tell Mom and Dad he couldn't find his money. They were disappointed he didn't put it in a safe place.

Dollar Duck went to bed that night and was so sad he started to cry. He didn't ever want to lose his money again but he didn't know of a good place to put it.

The next morning Mom had great news! She had found Dollar Duck's money in the laundry. He must have put the money in his pocket. Dollar Duck was very happy.

Mom and Dad explained to Dollar Duck that a credit union would be a safe place to keep his money.

Dollar Duck said "I've heard of a bank before but what is a credit union?" They said, "A credit union is a financial institution, like a bank but they are not-for-profit so we get to keep more of our own money."
Dollar Duck and Dad headed down to their local credit union, PFCU.

They were greeted by a teller with a big smile that said, "Hello Mr. Duck. Who have you brought with you today?"
He answered, "My son, Dollar Duck got some birthday money and he doesn't want to lose track of it. We came in today to open his very own savings account."
The teller said, "That is a great idea! We can definitely help." It was so easy to open his account and he learned a few things along the way:

Credit unions have special accounts for kids to teach them about saving and how to use money responsibly.
Credit unions are founded on the philosophy of "People Helping People" which is pretty cool.
Credit unions offer products, services and financial coaching that help members throughout their whole lives.
Mom and Dad even borrowed money from PFCU to buy their car.

Now that Dollar Duck is a member, he can rest easy knowing his birthday money is safe and will be there when he needs it.

Dollar Duck kept just enough of his birthday money to buy the baseball bat he wanted and he left the rest in his PFCU savings account.

CREDIT UNIONS are not-for-profit financial organizations that exist to serve their members. Like banks, credit unions accept deposits, make loans and provide a wide array of other financial services. But as member-owned and cooperative institutions, credit unions provide a safe place to save and borrow at reasonable rates. Learn more @ www.lovemycreditunion.org
