Once upon a time there was a sad fox who was always really lonely. He had no friends and his family was far away in another land. Sometimes a raccoon would come to talk to him, but raccoons, as you all know, never have much to say.
One day, however, all that changed.
Norway
It was a nice morning in the autumn. The fox was on his way to the lake for a swim. He jumped out in the water and played a while, all by himself. After a couple of hours, he headed home. On his way, he met his friend, the racoon.
They decided to have lunch together, at the racoon`s house. All of a sudden , there was a gunshot!
All shocked, they turned around and saw a hunter.
Cyprus
They were very frightened because there was not just one gunshot but many. For a moment, they turned their heads towards all directions to see if there were more hunters. But they could only see one of them.
"Why is that?" asked the racoon.
Can you help the racoon to understand this fact before you turn the page?
Yes! You are right! The sound of the gunshot returned as echo to their ears! So they started running to the opposite direction.
Then the fox had an idea!
"Why dont we use echo to
protect us?"
What do you think they will do?

The two of them grabbed some wood sticks from the ground and started to hit on the trees and rocks. They also started to scream. The hunter was really scared because the echo made him think that there were thousand of animals ready to attack him. So he turned around and started running really quickly.
The fox and the racoon were really happy and relieved! Now they could continue their walk in the forest.
Austria
After a while the two animals sat on a log to have a little rest after this excitement. Suddenly they heared a soft sob. Carefully, they approached and saw a king sitting in his carriage and crying. "What's going on?" asked the raccoon. "My daughter was abducted, a dragon grabbed her and flew over the slope with her, I couldn't not follow them. May be I'll never see her again," the king sneered. The two animals became also very sad and sat down in the coach next to the king.
"You just have to be able to fly," sighed the fox, "just like those dandelion seeds here." For a while all three observed the seeds, which happily whirled through the air and slowly slided to the ground.
"We're just going to create something like that kind of seed," the fox said and he jumped up, searching for huge leaves and lianas. He tied the leaves together to form a large circle and then tied four equal length lianas to the opposite sides of the circle. Finally, he tied the other ends of the four lianas together and tied them around his stomach.
"Shall I dare?" He asked the others. They just nodded wordlessly. The fox went to the slope, it was so deep and steep and he felt dizzy and then he took a deep breath and jumped.
The leaves opened and filled with air, and just like the dandelion seed, the little fox drifted down the ravine and arrived safely on the ground. He looked up at the others, waved to them, and set out to seek the princess.
Malta
After landing safely down the ravine the fox kept on walking. Suddenly he came to a river. It seemed calm enough to swim across ... and the fox, being a strong swimmer he was, immediately set to jump into it. But as soon as he got close enough to the water he saw a shadow lurking slowly beneath the surface.
The fox picked up a small branch and immersed it into the water. Soon enough a couple of crocodiles snapped at the poor branch breaking it into pieces. This meant that swimming across was no longer an option!
He couldn't use the same trick as before and fly across because there wasn't enough height. So he decided to build a raft that could help him cross.
But what could he use? He needed something that can float but at the same time carry him. Around him there were some rocks and leaves. He grabbed a large rock and put it in the water. surely it was strong enough but it didn't float. It dropped straight into the bottom of the river.
He found a very large leaf. He put it in the water. It floated perfectly but but as soon as he tried to put his feet on it, the leaf went down. It couldn't carry him!
So what material would be strong enough to carry him and yet it is lighter than water so that it could float? The fox looked around. His gaze fell on some logs lying on the ground. He took one and put it tentatively in the water. It floated!! But still it didn't look strong enough to carry him. What about two large logs tied together? It worked: two large logs were lighter than water and floated ... and could carry him!
Now the large leaf could be the sail that would catch the wind that would push him to the other side.
Bulgaria
The fox crossed the river safely with the raft. He had to find the princess, kidnapped by the dragon.
Where could he look for the princess and how to find her?
The king, her father, said that she was in the dragon’s cave.
He had to walk a long, long way through the dangerous forest. He took his bag and walked.
Suddenly he fell into a deep ditch.
“What can I do now? How to get out from the ditch? Who will help me?”
The fox looked around but there was nothing to use – only small rocks and sticks. He cried for help and his cry resounded in the ditch.
Suddenly a squirrel showed from above.
The fox decided what to do and asked the squirrel to help him. He made her throw one of the ends of a liana over the branch of a nearby tree. He told her to tie the other end around a stone and to push it into the ditch.
The weight of the stone pulled the fox out.
“ Thank you very much, little squirrel!” said the fox
“I have to find the dragon’s cave and save the princess. The king and my friend the raccoon waited me.”

The fox started to move. It was dark and the forest was so dangerous. The fox wanted to find a place where he could rest a little. He saw a big tree and climbed up and slept there. At late night he awakened by a loud noise. It was flood, everywhere was in water. The fox begat to cry:"Help,Help,Help" But it was late and dark, nobody could help him. Suddenly he had an idea. He had a long and bushy tail he hugged his tail and jumped into the water.
The tail was sailing as a boat and didn````````t sink.
Slovakia
Suddenly he couldn't move forward. Some power was spinning him and pulling him down. He found himself in the vortex. First he was scared but little fish saw him in the water and swam to him. They started to talk to him: “Don't be scared, don't fight, take a breath and let yourself swirl down. At the bottom the vortex is very narrow, and you will be able to swim under and away from it.” So he did what the fish said. He let himself swirl to the bottom of the vortex, he started to swim away from it. As he was swimming,
suddenly another power threw him up from the bottom and out from the lake to the height. What was it? What? It was a geyser. He landed on the bank of the lake. He was exhausted. He lay for a while on the ground, the sun was drying his fur. When he opened his eyes, he looked around. He saw that he was at a small spot where people were coming to have campfire and rest by the lake. There was a place for the fire, andsomewhere in the bushes there was something shiny. He stood up. “Au” His leg hurt. Even over the pain he started walking towards it. It was a piece of glass. He took it carefully and as he moved it to the sides, the sun rays were reflecting from it. He got
an idea. He could send a message to the animal friends that he needs help. He remembered how his Dad taught him how to send an S.O.S. signal. ---. (ta-ta-ta – taaa-taaaa-taaa – ta-ta-ta) Three short, three long, three short. He tried it with moving the glass and reflecting sun rays. He was not satisfied, so he looked aroundlooked at the sun, looked at the place for the fire, looked at the glass. He walked towards the place for making the fire. There were some pieces of paper left, some thin pieces of branches. He remembered! As he crouched by the fire place, he straightened his hand with a piece of glass in it in the way so the sun rays can go through the glass onto the paper. The heat from the sun
ray coming through the glass was hot enough and the smoke started coming up from the paper soon. And soon it started to burn. He had a fire. He put little bit more paper and thin branches to make the fire stronger. When the fire was strong enough and the smoke was coming up to the sky he took the piece of board left by the people there and started to cover and uncover the smoke in a way he got the S.O.S. signal. Short, short, short – long, long, long – short, short, short ...
