Reptiles are found in all continents of the world, except Antartica, living in a big variety of habitats, including the world's driest deserts. Many are aquatic, living in both fresh water and the sea.

Most reptiles reproduce sexually and have internal fertilization. Males have one or two penises that pass sperm from their cloaca to the cloaca of a female. Fertilization occurs within the cloaca, and fertilized eggs leave the female's body through the opening in the cloaca.

Reptiles are animals that are characterized by their skin, covered with scales or by a protective shell as is the case with turtles, and also by their very particular way of moving: dragging the belly across the surface. Despite these characteristics and the fact that many species live for a long time in water, they have lung respiration.
Reptiles are generally carnivorous but there are also herbivores and omnivores. They are all oviparous, hatch from an egg. The only species that does not have four legs is that of snakes. Most are hunters and some are poisonous or constrictors, so they are exotic animals and are not domestic pets.
