What is depression?
A mental health disorder characterized by a persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. Depression can change the brain making episodes worse and more frequent. Also, impacts the body and physical health which can lead to poor decisions.
What body System does it affect?
Depression is a mental disorder that makes it hard for a person to live a normal life. Having depression can cause a risk of heart attack, insomnia, preoccupation with death, constructed blood vessels, and weakened immune system. Much more can come from having depression, it is a mental battle that can have very real affects on the human body.
Signs and Symptoms of Depression
Mood: anxiety, apathy, general discontent, guilt, hopelessness, loss of interest, mood swings, or sadness
Behavioral: agitative, crying, irritability, restlessness, or social isolation
Sleep: early awakening, excess sleepiness, insomnia, or restless sleep.
Signs and Symptoms of Depression
Cognitive: Lack of concentration, slowness in activity, or thoughts of suicide
Weight: Both Weight gain and loss could occur.
Whole-body: excessive hunger, fatigue, or loss of appetite
The majority of treatments for depression is a medication called anti-depressants. But there are other ways than taking a pill a lot of people are able to recover by going to talk with a therapist multiple times a week. Some people might even do a combination of the two main methods.
How is Depression Treated?
What is the quality of life for some that has depression?
The quality of life for someone that has depression is hard. With depression, you will have mood swings and overthink just about everything. Basically, everything in your life becomes a lot harder to complete.
