The year was 1490. It was a
beautiful day in
Extremadura, Spain.
Everyone was excited for
Christopher Columbus's trip
to the New World. Traders
and merchants were selling
marvelous items in the
market. And a baby was
born. "His name will be Alvar
Nunez Cabeza de Vaca,"
said his mother.

Thirty-eight years later, Narvaez's
expedition, only for the royal Spanish, was
approaching. Cabeza de Vaca wanted to find
a route from Spain to the Mexican shore of
the Gulf coast, which was named La Florida
before our time. He and Narvaez were
planning to colonize the countries that lie
there.

Two years after, they landed in
Cuba, unknowingly. He spent
eight whole years on the shore.
More and more people started to
die of starvation, but he survived.

When he was sailing with Narvaez, they
saw the shore of another country. They
sailed till the crew got to it. They did not
reach the shore of Mexico. They
eventually found out they arrived on the
coast of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico.

While they were in Florida, Narvaez
overthrew Cabeza de Vaca. Narvaez
started a march through Florida.
Unfortunately, Narvaez, Cabeza de Vaca,
and the rest of the crew were lost on the
Floridian soil.

After months and months through the
swamps and wilderness, they reached
Apalachee Bay in the northeastern part of
the Gulf of Mexico. They were left with only
a minimal number of 242 men.

They were starving, wounded, sick, and
lost in the horrifying swampy terrain.
Tragically, they ate their horses to survive.
This was obviously the most depressing
part of their ridiculous trip.

Another reason they killed these wonderful
creatures was because they needed to
make bellows, a device which blasts a
massive amount of air to make fires larger.

They built five new rafts to still look for
Mexico. They did not want to pass up the
rumors of gold. They continued westward
and arrived at the mouth of the Mississippi
River.

A hurricane impaired their schedule and
scattered all the ships all over the Gulf, not
knowing where the other boats had gone.
