Alex the lion is the most popular animal in the Central Park Zoo, nicknamed The King of New York, he is very happy with life at the zoo. He's Marty's best friend.

He is Alex's best friend, and he is the one who causes the escape from the zoo. He dreams of nature and wonders what life would be like beyond the zoo.

Gloria is a hippo who was born in the same Central Park Zoo. Serves as a mediator and caretaker of the group who takes care of others and tends to take charge whenever. He loves to eat and live the good life.

Melman is a giraffe, born in captivity at the Central Park Zoo. Because of his previous stay at the Bronx Zoo, Melman believes that he is a real man. He is the most nervous of his friends.
