Erin was sad because she broke her foot playing soccer. She wasn't able to play during recess. 

Shoshana was deaf, and didn't have any friends. She spent recess alone coloring most days.

Erin noticed Shoshana not playing with the other kids and wanted to go and say hi.  She wondered why she was all alone.

Erin went up to Shoshana to introduce herself, but Shoshana didn't see her. 

Erin was confused as to why Shoshana wasn't paying attention to her and started to get frustrated.

Shoshana noticed Erin and pointed to her ears. She shook her head to try and show Erin that she cannot hear.

Shoshana grabbed some paper from her backpack and started writing. She wrote out her name and that she was deaf.
