In a food chain, all living things begin with the sun as a source of energy.

The sun gives energy to the plants, also known as the producers, that are able to produce their own food and energy through the process called photosynthesis.
A herbivore is an animal that only eats plants. This is the primary consumer in our story. In order to get energy, the rabbit has to eat plants.
A carnivore is an animal that eats other organisms, including animals and insects. This is the secondary consumer in our story. In order for the snake to get energy he has to eat the rabbit.
