Once upon a time, a Jewish man named Daniel lived in a place called Babylon.

Daniel loved God and followed all of Gods rules.

He would kneel down and talk to God three times a day, asking God for help when he needed it.

You're so great Daniel!

Daniel worked in the Babylonian King's court for many years and was always every King's favourite of the court officials because he was so kind, helpful and intelligent.

One day, King Darius decided that because Daniel was so great, he would make Daniel in charge of the whole empire!

Grrrrr we hate Daniel

The other court officials were jealous of Daniel and tried to think of something bad about him to tell King Darius but they couldn't think of anything!

They realised that Daniel was responsible, faithful and completely trustworthy and this made them even more jealous.

Hmmm, I think thats a good idea.

The court officials also knew that Daniel faithfully worshipped God.

So they went to King Darius and suggested that he puts a new rule in place that if anyone prays to anyone except king Darius for the next 30 days, they will be thrown into the lions den. 

King Darius thought this suggestion was a good idea and signed a piece of paper to make it an official law.

Once a Babylonian King signs a law, it cannot be changed and there are not to be any exceptions to the rule.

Dear God...

Look! There he is!

Daniel heard about the new law but remained faithful to God anyway and went home to pray, to give thanks and to ask for help.

The court officials spied on him and found him breaking the new law.

Oh dear! Are you sure?
