One day out of the year is my favorite because on this day my Busia comes over to make a fest of polish food.

I love polish food.

We make Golumpkis. You can pronounce it by saying guh-WOOMP-key. These are a type of cabbage roll.

We make Pierogis. These are polish dumplings that are filled with potato and cheese, sauerkraut and beef, or sweet cream. We make our own combinations too. My favorite is sauerkraut and cabbage! 

We top them with melted butter and onions.

We make kapusta. You can say it as gah-POOS-Tah. This is the polish word for cabbage. We make a big pot of this braised cabbage stew and eat it for days. 

For desert we make babka. This is a sweet braided bread. Chocolate babka is our favorite. 

And everyones favorite include all our neighbors and friends are Kolaczkis, which are different from the Czech pastries Kolaches. Kolaczkis are a polish pastry filled with preserves. We make ours with apricot and raspberry filling and they are sprinkled with powered sugar. Yum!  

After a long day of cooking and baking we sit down to a table full of food and eat until our tummies are round. 

This is my favorite day of the year.
