Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Zedal, there lived a knight named Sir Gene. Gene was known for supporting the workers of the kingdom and did not like war.

One day, the King of Zedal sent soldiers to fight in a war between far away kingdoms. This upset Gene and he began to protest.
In one of Sir Gene's protests, he gave a speech telling the townspeople that they should not have to fight in the war. The king heard about this and was not happy.
Gene was charged with violating the Espionage Act of 1917, which included the Sedition Act of 1918. Both of the acts meant he was going against the government.
The Espionage Act did not allow people to interfere with the military's ability to make people join. The Sedition Act was more extreme and did not allow people to say bad things about the government or the war.
Sir Gene argued against this charge by saying it violated the First Amendment of the Zedallian Constitution, which gave him free speech.
