To World War ll and every war veterans.

It was September 1, 1939 when the war broke out. I was at my house in Tallahassee, Florida on April 16, 1945 when a battle began.
I was very afraid and worried so I went to my basement because I built one last year thinking the war would get here and I could wait it out in my basement with everything boarded up and I had cans to eat. I was thinking it wouldn't get that bad and they would just move troops through there. But I was wrong. I heard gunshots and got worried. I live alone in a two story building which wasn't that big but it was alright.
I've always looked back on how dumb I was thinking that I would just wait it out. I heard some screams and knew they were coming closer. I was scared though I knew they wouldn't try to kill an innocent citizen, "Right?," I thought in my head getting paranoid I was in a real life warzone!
I miraculously fell asleep and woke up to knocking on the basement door I went up with the little pistol I bought the month before and opened the door,
"Ha oh my gosh you scared me!" said a man in a military suit I knew it was a American one cause on top it said United States Of America, and I knew I was in good hands.
