Hi! My name is Hans; I am five years old and today I will tell you all you need to know about my Country. I live in the beautiful Democratic People’s Republic of Korea or commonly known as North Korea. I live with only my mother and father because I am an only child.

Citizens of North Korea are assigned a job at sixteen years old, and they must work until they are too old or too tired. My parents are no exception as they are common citizens. Since my parents came from poor families, they were assigned to be street sweepers for the rest of their lives.

When the government assigned my parents, their job they told them to start a family together and gave them land and a house. My parents were very thankful for the land and house they were given to use to start a family.

Use this house.

Thank you for your kindness.
My parents wished I could go to school but because of my common family background the government would never allow me to step foot in a school. My parents quickly gave up on that wish and focused only on their job because if they did not go to work, all of us would be punished by the law and sent to prison camp.

Sometimes I wish they could stay home and play with me but I don’t want to go to prison camp so I have to deal with it. Though, sometimes I do wonder if the food at prison camp is better than the food at home.

When the government doesn’t have enough food to give to the street sweepers, they are given the only thing left which is rotten vegetables or nothing at all. Even if the street sweepers were given food, it would not be enough to last a week because the government doesn’t produce a lot of food for the people

There are a few times I remembered that everyone in my neighborhood would starve because we did not get any food at all. Those times were difficult and scary because I thought I was going to die but I made it out and lived to see another day thanks to our leader Kim Jong-un for sending us some vegetables from his personal farm.
