As we all know, Persephone moved to live in the underground with her husband hades, far away from her mother. but although she kept writing to her mother, and she wrote a lot for her. in this book we are going to read about one letter from Persephone to her mother Demeter.

Persephone started by talking about the upper world, even though she is down, in the underground. which represents that she is missing life in the upper world.
she said that hell is not so far from the world, she can feel and hear a lot of things that happen up where her mother lives.
Her hair can tangle in the roots of the trees that exists in the upper world, and as we know you can't find trees in the underground, because nature needs love, fresh air, and beautiful weather to grow.

She's making strong crunching footsteps, the sound of the acorns (the cap nut) falling, and the bells can easily be heard while she is in the underground.
she can hear when a hoe is digging in the ground to bring someone back to life or to prepare a grave for a new soul to be taken to the underground.
Persephone mentioned a kind of animal that doesn't see very well, but they can hear in a good way.
those animals used to go to the upper world day&night to see what's going on there, and tell Persephone, but they couldn't help her because they can't see.
After talking about the upper world and how interested she is to know about what is going on there... she moved to talk about the underground, her new home where she can only see dead, strange, and boring people, and they keep hiding. they just go out at night to tell her if there is a moon outside, but they come back like crazy, surprised and shocked. because they aren't used to see the light, or to see something like the moon.
Persephone, keeps talking about the dead people that she's living with them in the underworld, she tried to talk to them and make friendships but they are so boring and simple, they keep asking her about how is it the life in the upper world, and when she starts to answer they don't listen to her.
Not only the people, but her husband Hades don't speak usually, and he gets annoyed from chatting.
On the other hand, the weather is so depressing, and they have nothing to drink but the water that comes from the upper side to the underworld through the mud.
they have nothing to eat but raw beets & turnips.
Persphone mentioned that the race of the dead people looks like insects. because they keep increasing quickly.
Persphone moves again to talk about her mother and the upper world, she is missing her mother a lot, she asks her mother to send her flowers, she is about to forget them and forget how beautiful their smell is. and she wants to show them to the dead people around her because they don't believe in such a beautiful thing.
then, she tells her mother that her dead friends are good, they have nothing to lose or a secret to keep. because of that, they don't make mistakes as humans in the upper world,
She comforts her mother and tells her that her husband is kind and good. he keeps her and he asks nothing from her.
Persephone tells her mother that she was afraid of her husband seeing the letters that she writes for her mother Demeter. and how he would interact. but he didn't get angry and he told Persephone you can write but it won't get to your mother.
We can infer, that the underworld is not the right place for Persephone to live, and It doesn't belong to her. she is full of life, exactly the opposite of the underworld. full of sadness and depression.

The Record

We can notice that Persephone is very connected to the upper world more than the underworld, she is the kind of person who loves to wake up on a beautiful sunny day, to catch a flower and smell it, or to sit on the grass and watch the beautiful nature around her.
But this is not her reality, she’s living in a place full of darkness, everything is dead in there, and not just the humans. She tried to find beauty in this darkness to get along with her new life. But she couldn't! And that’s what made her sadder. How can she stay in a place where she doesn’t belong to?
Those feelings of sadness and confusion made her realize that she will never love life in the underworld more than the upper world.
She also keeps writing to her mother, Demeter the god of agriculture and nature. That she is missing a lot.
