Sarah Annie Dillard Whittenmeyer was born a gifted child in a small town in Ohio. She was recognized for being such by nuns at her convent.
During her childhood and early into her adulthood, she experienced famine and death. Over 1300 soldiers in her new home of Iowa had died because of World War 2.

But she stayed positive!
Her husband and three out of her four children then perished when Sarah was in her early adulthood.

But she stayed positive!
Then her brother became sick. While Sarah was tending to him in the hospital she realized that she could use her positivity for good.

She realized that she could use her positivity to create change. Sarah changed the diets of the hospital to help her brother and other sick soldiers recover.

After she realized that she could create change by having positive energy, she decided to set bigger goals to help her fellow citizens.

She began helping orphans, who had lost their families just like she had.

She became the president of the Orphans Home Association and was able to create an orphanage in Iowa that supported many homeless children.

She continued to stay positive throughout her work and realized that individual women were able to create important change to help people.
