In the summer of 1886 Annie Oakley spent her time in Windsor, Ontario

Annie Oakley (Phoebe Ann Mosey) was brought up by her mom, a widow after her husband died in the early years of his children's lives.

Raised having to hunt for all of her family's food and money, Annie Oakley got very good at using a rifle

She got so good, in fact, that she was able to enter sharpshooting tournaments at a young age. She won so often that she got banned from some competitions.

All the men she met were so surprised that she was as good as she was that she began to grow a following. One of the men she impressed was her husband, Frank Butler.

She just watched her husband from the side.

Annie and Frank traveled together as part of the Sells Brother's Circus. Annie didn’t shoot in the show for a while because it was improper for a girl

When Annie arrived at Windsor with her circus she started in the same place as she had been in every other show.

Until her husbands partner was made unable to perform

The crowd called for Annie to compete, but there were some who were unsure.

Nonetheless Frank allowed her on stage.

The audience went wild as Annie stepped up to attempt the next challenge.

She was tasked with hitting an ace mid air while facing backwards.
