Colin loved to play football! He was the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League.

But all of his life Colin noticed something that made him very upset

Colin noticed how black people weren't treated the same by police officers as white people. He noticed that black people were unfairly hurt by officers.

This made colin start to think what could HE do to make a change...

Then he finally had an idea! He would kneel during the national anthem to protest the unfairness of the way cops treated African Americans!

So on september 1st, 2016 Colin took a knee during the national anthem and made history

Colin received a lot of support in his protest

But Colin also had a lot of people that were not happy, and thought his kneeling was disrespectful to America
