

It is vital for cities with cultural/urban heritage to perceive the preservation of cultural heritage as a necessary objective for sustainable planning in their city plans. This process necessitates that the cultural heritage protection program be handled with a sustainable approach.

Our experience from past to present has shown that cultural heritage conservation planning has positive contributions to sustainable planning studies. This is only possible by protecting and improving the important factors of natural and cultural heritage through planning. Revitalizing issues such as environmental protection, cultural / urban heritage, natural heritage, cultural landscape in connection with sustainable urban development is a positive development for the future of heritage.

In this study, a theoretical evaluation framework will be created and this framework will aim to protect the environmental and cultural heritage; heritage, on the other hand, will be accepted as a socio-cultural and economic resource, ecological and social value. According to this study, sustainable planning, which includes environmental, economic and socio-cultural components, should also aim to ensure the sustainability of cultural assets.

The use of sustainability data is inevitable in this planning process. In this context, in this study, sustainable planning is discussed as an important tool for sustainable urbanization, and the necessity of this concept to include the protection and re-evaluation of cultural heritage is opened to discussion.

According to this thesis, cultural heritage by definition constitutes an important source for sustainability and the content of this heritage is accepted as an important contribution in terms of sustainable urbanization planning.
Therefore, the subject will be discussed within the framework of this thesis.
