That’s when I knew I was never going to be safe.
It all started in the summer of 1995. I was
walking home from the bus stop, I walked in the
house, got a snack and turn on the tv. I heard
the mail man push the mail through the mail slot.
I went to see what had came, there was an
envelope with my name on it. I opened the
envelope and pulled out the letter, it was blank.
Nothing written on the front or the back. I
started to wonder who it was from. I through the
rest of the mail onto the counter and went back
to watching tv. Later when mom and dad came
home, I mentioned it to them just to see what
they thought. They told me “ its probably
nothing”, so I didn’t think anything else of it.

As the weeks went on I was getting a letter in the mail
each week with one letter on it. It was very confusing
at first, but when I went back and looked at them, I
realized they spelled something out, “ I love you” ! I
began to wonder who it could be, a past boyfriend, a
friend playing a joke or just some random person.

I was still receiving letters but instead of once a week
they were coming every other day. The second set of
letters spelled out “ I’m coming for you”! I got scared,
I told my parents but they thought it must have been a
joke. Then I received flowers, then chocolates, then a
gift with a note that said “ Don’t open this until I say
so”. I got frightened, I knew it was no longer a joke.

Every morning when I would go to school, I felt like I
was being watched, sometimes I thought I even heard
the click of a camera. I no longer walked to school; I
had my mom take me. She thought I was just stressed
out from all of my school work, but I knew there was
something wrong.

I got more letters in the mail, but when I went to piece them
together, it didn’t make since. I was looking at them, I
stared at them for hours at a time but could not figure out
what it said. Then one day I was standing in front of my
mirror and I figured it out. The letters made the sentence
look backwards. It said “From the moment you figure this
out, you have 2 hours until I come”.

I began to panic, my heart raced, my stomach ached, my
head was spinning. I had to run; I needed to get as far away
as I possibly could. Not only for me, but also for my families
safety. I packed my bags and ran outside, I noticed the
neighbor had left their car running, as they went into the
house. I through my bags in the back, shut the door and
drove off. I knew I had committed a crime, but it was my
only way to get away from there.

I drove for 12 hours straight. I spent the night at a Holiday
in right outside the border. I thought to myself, there's no
way they can find me here. As I layed down to go to sleep, I
wondered what was going to happen. Would I ever see my
family? When could I go home ? When I was going to be
safe?

The next morning when I woke up I realized I wasn’t in a
hotel anymore. I was in a ware house, alone. It was cold,
and empty, there was nothing inside, except for painting of
me all over the walls. I got scared, I began to shake, the
room began to spin, my whole body got numb.

Someone had kidnapped me while I was asleep. I couldn’t
figure out how they found me. Then all of a sudden, the door
opened. There was guy standing in the doorway holding a
rifle in one hand and a tray of food in the other. He placed
the tray on the floor and pushed it my way and said “Eat”! I
yelled “ who are you” he just laughed. I began to scream, he
just laughed and said “scream all you want no one will hear
you”!
