Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese explorer and the first European to reach India by sea.
His most significant accomplishment was sailing from Portugal to India in 1497. The Portuguese were looking for a water route to India. He left Portugal in 1497 and sailed south along the western coast of Africa.

Vasco brought back cinnamon and pepper, silk and jewels, and together with some Indian hostages. He was rewarded the town of Sines. He was also rewarded with 300,000 reis. Temperate forests are forests that are located around North America, North-Eastern Asia, and Western and Central Europe. Vasco da Gama invariably facilitated the exploration of the Indian subcontinent and rest of Asia. He actually paved the way for Portuguese colonies and later the British colonized much of India through the eighteenth century. However, unlike the British and their governors, Vasco da Gama was revered by the Indian people, particularly in the southern states. Vasco da Gama served a satiating tenure as governor and was also held responsible for relative prosperity in a few southern regions of India. A part of the route required Da Gama’s fleet to sail more than 10,000 kilometres of open sea. At that time this was the longest journey ever made out of sight of land. Da Gama and his crew also overcame the challenge of sailing through waters which were previously unknown to Europeans. In April 1498, they became the first Europeans to visit the port of Mombasa in Kenya, which lay in their route to India.
Discoveries and cultural impact / Opinion of Modern Society
In 1497,he added a New one to the Portuguese sea expeditions initiated by the navigator Henry,by developing the sea route that was discovered by Bartelemeu Dias before him and extending as far as the Cape of good hope, which circumnavigated Africa.
Vasco De Gama was the first European to find an ocean trading route to India. He accomplished what many explorers before him could not do. His discovery of this sea route helped the Portuguese establish a long-lasting colonial empire in Asia and Africa. The new ocean route around Africa allowed Portuguese sailors to avoid the Arab trading hold in the Mediterranean and Middle East. Better access to the Indian spice routes boosted Portugal’s economy. Vasco da Gama opened a new world of riches by opening up an Indian Ocean route. His voyage and explorations helped change the world for Europeans.

Vasco da Gama is considered one of the leading figures of not only the Age of Discovery but the entire history of exploration. Os Lusíadas (The Lusiads), a Portuguese epic poem written by Luís Vaz de Camões and regarded as Portugal’s national epic, is primarily about Vasco da Gama’s voyages. Numerous places have been named after him including the port city of Vasco da Gama in Goa and the crater Vasco da Gama on the Moon. Da Gama ranked 10th in a nationwide poll for the Greatest Portuguese organized by the Portuguese public broadcasting station RTP.
Though Vasco da Gama is revered in Portugal, his legacy in India has suffered due to several reasons including the pilgrim ship incident.

Piri Reis (1470-1554) OTTOMAN TURKISH
The family of Ahmet Muhyiddin Pîrî, an actor from Karaman, II. During the reign of Mehmed, he was one of the families who were immigrated from Karaman to Istanbul by the order of the sultan. The family lived in Istanbul for a while, then moved on to Gallipoli. Pîrî Reis' father is Karamanlı Hacı Mehmet, and his uncle is the famous sailor Kemal Reis.
Piri started sailing with his uncle Kemal Reis; Between 1487 and 1493 they pirated in the Mediterranean together; They participated in raids on the coasts of Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia and France. When the Muslims who were massacred in Gırnata, the last city under the rule of Muslims in Andalusia, asked for help from the Ottoman Empire in 1486, the Ottoman Empire, which did not have a navy to go overseas in those years, sent Kemal Reis to Spain under the Ottoman Flag. Piri Reis, who participated in this expedition, carried Muslims from Spain to North Africa with his uncle.

After the death of his uncle in 1511, Piri Reis, who did not sail to the open seas for a while and settled in Gallipoli, drew the first world map dated 1513, in this map covering the Atlantic Ocean, the Iberian Peninsula, the west of Africa and the east coast of the new world America. drew the map.
Piri Reis' map is the first world map. Despite the conditions of the time, this map, which was drawn quite comprehensively, left traces in the Ottoman naval history.
There are two things about this map that amazes modern society. The first is Piri Reis' drawing of the America Continent, which he had never set foot in his life. The second is that the dimensions of the map are technically the same as the photographs of the world taken from space.
