A long time ago, in a mansion on an island called great Britain, lived the family of the Mannerings, a man named Carter and his wife, Elizabeth. Their house was gigantic. To maintain the house, they had over 50 housekeepers and staff, like cleaners, cooks, gardeners, assistants, etc. Carter was the owner of a big clothes factory.

One day, Carter heard Elizabeth screaming at the top of her voice. "Jeez, what’s the matter, Lizzie dear", he said. "Our chimney sweep isn’t doing his job properly, so I fired him" she said "we should have hired the other chimney sweep". "But honey," he said "the other one was the woman, she probably couldn’t count to twenty. You can, because you were born into a family in which you are fortunate to have been taught reading, writing, arithmetic, etc. These lower-class women are not taught stuff like that. "But we can hire her!" She persisted. "We need a chimney sweep, not an accountant! This guy we hired instead, he’s practically useless. Doesn’t do anything, good-for-nothing fellow!"

"Oh all right, I suppose, I will call her tomorrow" said Carter. "The only good part is we need to pay her lesser money. If we pay her what we payed this guy, people are going to start talking". Lizzie said "If this is what it is going to take for you to hire her, then fine, we’ll pay her lesser.

Edward and Alison left, Lizzie said to Carter, "I have changed my mind, we are paying her what we payed the other guy. Look at her, she is helping her mother by working so many odd jobs! She really needs the money." "Alright fine! You can pay her that amount but if word get’s out that we pay her this much, you just wait." Lizzie was delighted that her husband who normally never agreed to stuff like this, gave in.
