Some of the many traditions of the Dragon Boat Festival (端午节) are racing dragon boats, dragon boats are giant canoes that can hold 16 or more people and are carved into the shape of a dragon. People will come together and paddle in groups to race each other. This great boat race represents the many boats that paddled out to save Qu Yuan when he drowned himself in the Miluo River when the Chu empire fell.
