Hi, My name is Ivory.  Today, I start second grade. I feel nervous. I feel shy.  It is my first day at a new school and I have butterflies in my belly.  I don't know anyone yet.  I hope my teacher is nice.

I enter my new classroom.  I meet Mrs. Walmsley. She is old.  Her hair is gray.  She makes me feel very welcomed.  Mrs. Walmsley introduces me to the class and I feel shy again.  I am quiet and give a small smile to everyone. 

Mrs. Walmsley tells me to sit next to Ebony.  Ebony is very pretty. She has brown hair and brown eyes.  She has two pony tails and a happy smile.  Ebony is very nice to me.  

"Hi Ivory, my name is Ebony.  You can sit with me today!"

Ebony showed me around my new school.  She invited me to sit with her at the lunch table.  Together, we talked about what we had for lunch.

"I am eating sushi. It is a tradition in my family.  It is delicious.  It has rice and vegetables in it.  I eat it with chopsticks" I said.

"That sounds good," said Ebony.  "I am eating my grandma's special tomato soup.  I helped her make it yesterday.  We used fresh tomatoes from our garden" said Ebony.
