Places of Europe

A is for the Alps. A mountain range
that forms Germany's southern border
with the countries of France, Austria
and Switzerland

B is for the Baltic Sea. The Baltic is an
arm of the Atlantic Ocean and flows into
two smaller gulfs. The gulf of Bosnia and
the gulf of Finland.

C is for Corniche. These are the
parallel roads that travel along the
heights overlooking Monaco. The
Lower Corniche is considered to be
one of the most beautiful roadways
of the world.

D is for the Danube River located in Hungary.
It is known as the Duna in Hungary and flows
from North to South. It serves as an important link
with Hungary's trading partners.

E is for Eastern Europe. This includes the
six countries of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic,
Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

F is for forest. Forests cover more
than 50 percent of the country of
Austria.

G is for Greece, one of the most
mountainous countries in Europe.
More than 60% of the surface is
covered by mountains.

H is for highest point in Europe.
This is Mt. Elbrus located in Russia,
which stands tall at 18,506 ft.

I is for island. The Aran Islands of
Ireland are the most famous of the
Irish Islands. Consist of 3 limestone
islands - Inishmore, Inishmaan and
Inisheer.

J is for Jena. The second largest
city in Germany, where there is
not much agriculture because
of the rugged landscape.

K is for Kiev. The 7th largest city
of Europe, located in Ukraine.

L is for lowlands. In Poland, nearly
92 percent of the land is no more
than 985 feet above sea level.

M is for Meseta, a high plateau
broken in places by rolling hills
and valleys that cover most of
central Spain. Receives little
rainfall and experiences hot
summers and cold winters.

N is for navigable.The rivers and
fertile soil have made Europe a
dominant economic, social, and
cultural force throughout history.

O is for Oesling Region. This is one
of the two main land regions of
Luxembourg. Lies on the slopes of
the Ardennes Hills. Here there is a
hilly forrested plateau where rivers
cut deep valleys into the land.

P is for plateau. These rocky, rugged
regions rise a few hundred or thousand
feet above sea level. The largest
highland plateau is in France and is
called the Massif Central.
