Butch Cassidy's real name is
Robert LeRoy Parker, but
Butch Cassidy is his gang
name.

Butch Cassidy was born on April 13,
1866 in Beaver, Utah.
His parents were Maximillian Parker
and Ann Campbell Gillies.

In his early teens, Butch left home and went to work on a
dairy farm. He was mentored by Mike Cassidy. While
working at as a butcher in Rocker Springs, Wyoming, he
acquired the nickname "Butch". Soon, he appended the
surname Cassidy to honor his old mentor.

On June 24, 1889, Cassidy, Matt Warner, and two of the
McCarty Brothers robbed the San Miguel Valley Bank in
Telluride, Colorado of approximately $21, 000.

In 1894, Cassidy was arrested in Lander, Wyoming for
stealing horses and possibly for running a protection packet
among local ranchers.

When Cassidy was released, he associated
himself with a circle of criminals. The group
included Elzy Lay, Harvey "Kid Curry"
Logan, Ben Kilpatrick, Harry Tracy, Will
"News" Carver, Laura Bullion, and George
Curry. They formed a gang known as the
Wild Bunch.

On August 13, 1896, Cassidy, Lay, Harvey Logan,
and Bob Meeks robbed the bank at Montpelier,
Idaho, escaping with approximately $7,000. A while
after, he recruited Harry Longabaugh, also known
as "The Sundance Kid".

On June 2, 1899, the Wild Bunch robbed a Union
