CHAPTER 1

Ecuador is one of the countries with the greatest biodiversity in the world, it has beautiful landscapes in each of its regions: Coast, Sierra, Amazon and the Galapagos Islands.
It is a multicultural country made up of indigenous, mestizo and Afro-descendant populations.
LANGUAGE
The official language is Spanish and it is spoken by the majority of Ecuadorians. However, there are also several indigenous languages such as Quechua and they are important for the different communities.

RELIGION
There are various religious beliefs in Ecuador, the majority is Catholic. There are also other religions such as Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, evangelical, etc.
In Ecuador we can observe different festivals or religious traditions such as the novena to prepare ourselves to the arrival of Jesus at christmas.


GASTRONOMY
Guinea pig
If you go to the Sierra, you should try this dish. It is a small edible rodent. Its meat contains a lot of protein. It is served both fried or roasted accompanied by potatoes, corn and salad.

Encebollado
It is a dish from the province of Guayas, it is broth with fish, yucca, onion and can be seasoned with chili powder, cumin or other spices to taste.
Chicha
It is a fermented drink from the fruits of chonta and yucca, its very common in the Amazon.

LIVING IN A CITY VS
THE COUNTRYSIDE
LIVING IN A CITY
In the city, the population has a high density, which makes it easy for people to interact. They offer various types of services such as restaurants, health centers, schools, universities. Also, the cities are a great tourist attraction.



GUAYAQUIL
LIVING IN THE COUNTRYSIDE
In the countryside, the population is low. Also, they have low levels of pollution.
The distances between towns are usually long and they do not have a highly developed transport service.


DIFFERENCES
The population in the city is bigger than in the countryside.
In the city we can observe huge constructions such as buildings and industries.

Activities such as livestock and agriculture are carried out.
There are not many shops, schools or hospitals.

PASACALLE

It is a traditional Ecuadorian rhythm, characterized by having a happy dance and it became known since 1940.
The most popular pasacalle in Ecuador is the Chulla Quiteño.
