Judge John Sirica orders Nixon to show the court the tapes from the Oval Office. Nixon uses his power of executive privilege to not show the judge the tapes.

The court sends Nixon a subpoena, which forces him to hand over the tapes.

At first, Nixon gives the court edited versions of the tapes.

Through Judicial Review, the court decides that Nixon can't hide the complete tapes because that would go against the Constitution. 

Nixon gives the court the complete and un-edited collection of tapes.
