Rosa Parks was an American activist in the civil rights movement.

The United States Congress has honored her as "the first lady of civil rights"

Cause:

In 1955, African Americans were required to sit in the back of the city buses, and to move for the white riders.

But on December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks denied moving from her seat when asked. 

She was then arrested and fined. 

Effect:

The boycott took place from December 5, 1955, to December 20, 1956.

It is regarded as the first large-scale U.S. demonstration against segregation.

Facts about the boycott:

75% of the Montgomery bus riders, were African Americans. 

Bus companies were losing money but kept resisting to comply with their protests.

"On June 5, 1956, a Montgomery federal court ruled that any law requiring racially segregated seating on buses violated the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution."
