The 2022 Zone III National Student Sports Week (Popnas) in South Kalimantan officially opened on Wednesday, October 26th. 

The opening of the Pre-Popnas was held at GOR Hasanuddin HM, which was also attended by Assistant Deputy for Nursery and Sports Science and Technology of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Bayu Rahadian, Governor of South Kalimantan Sahbirin Noor, and Head of the Youth and Sports Service of South Kalimantan Province Hermansyah.

In his remarks, Bayu Rahadian, expressed his highest appreciation to the Governor of South Kalimantan, along with his staff who had prepared the pre-popnas well.

In addition, Bayu said that Pre-Popnas is part of a competition that has been unable to take place for the past 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"It is hoped that Pre-Popnas Zone III will produce athletes who are proud at National and even world quality," he hoped.

Of course, this pre-popnas event will later compete at Popnas 2023 which will take place in South Sumatra later.

Nevertheless, the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports will later recommend South Kalimantan as the next host at the next Popnas event.

"It seems that after Popnas South Sumatra, Aceh, and North Sumatra, it will only be recommended that the implementation of Popnas in Bumi South Kalimantan," he added.

Sahbirin Noor, also said in his speech that hopefully this sports event among students will get motivation, determination, and enthusiasm to continue to advance sports in Indonesia.

"Through achievements in the field of sports, a country will be uplifted in dignity, dignity, and honor in the world," he said.

In addition, Sahbirin also conveyed how important coaching is to improve sports achievements.

"Expect coaches to look for outstanding athletes from among students, do coaching, and prove that we are capable of producing outstanding athletes," he said.

Separately, Hermansyah added that there were eight competitions that were contested, namely Sepak Takraw, Football, Volleyball, Tennis, Boxing, Basketball, Badminton, and Pencak Silat.

"Those who will compete for as many as 47 gold medals, 47 silver medals, and 47 bronze medals," he said.

The total attendance of around 1,800 participants involved in Pre-Popnas Zone III 2022 with various contigents from Central Kalimantan there were 169 people, North Kalimantan 72 people, Banten 175 people, Yogyakarta 168 people, Central Java 173 people, and Bali sent 151 people.

Separately, Faiz Ihsanul Kamil as the Goalkeeper who participated in the Pre-Popnas football match said his team was certainly confident of winning the championship.

"Our team has trained to the fullest, and is 100 percent sure that they will win the championship," he said.

Furthermore, Edi Broto, the Football Coach of the Yogyakarta Special Region, said that his party was certainly optimistic in the 2022 Kalsel Pre-popnas event to win the general championship.

"We are sure that we will win football, where the training has been done for about 4 months," he said.
