This book is dedicated to my mother, Glendell, who always made morning breakfast one to remember!
Michael, who is six years of age, wakes up and quickly runs to his mother's room to tell her "Good morning."
His mother embraces him with a warm hug and asks him what he would like to eat for breakfast.
Michael responded saying that he would like to eat pancakes and sausage like he had the day before. [Cognitive milestone: Uses words about time, like “yesterday,” “tomorrow,” “morning,” or “night”]
His mother replied saying "yes, how many would you like"?
Micheal stated that he would like to have two sausages and one pancake. [Language Milestone: Keeps a conversation going with more than three back-and-forth exchanges]
His mother asked him if he would like to make pancakes with her and he said, "Yes, my friend Kelly makes pancakes with her mommy, and she put blueberries in them". [Language Milestone: Tells a story he heard or made up with at least two events]
Michael's mom said, "Mmm, that sounds yummy! Would you like to put blueberries in your pancakes too?"
Michael jumps up and down shouting, "Yes!" He then ran to the kitchen counter to help his mother prepare the morning breakfast.
Michael's mom grabbed the bowl, pancake mixture, and water and encouraged Michael to mix it all together.
Once he mixed the pancake batter, she handed him some blueberries to mix in the pancakes. Micheal begins to count them as he places them into the mixture. "One, two, three, four, five", He shouted! "You will need more than that," replied his mother. [Cognitive Milestone: Names some numbers between 1 and 5 when you point to them]
