once upon a time, there was a poor man name Khoai, who worked as a servant for a landlord in the village. The landlord was very mean, but he has a single, beautiful daughter

He was afraid that Khoai leave this household and thus he would lose hard-worker. So he promised Khoai that if he worked hard for 3 years, he would allowed to marry the landlord's daughter. Khoai was very honest, so he believed the landlord. He worked day and night and looked forward to getting married

However, the landlord didn't keep his promise. Instead, he offered his daughter to the son of wealthy man in the neighboring village

when the time for marriage, the landlord said to Khoai

: "Khoai"! go to th forest, find a Hundred knot Bamboo Tree   and cut it up into chopstick for wedding feast. Then I 'll get you marry my daughter

however, he cloud't find 1. The bamboo tallest he could see had less than fifty knots. Tired and sad he started to cry.
