Once upon a time, there was a woodcutter who was very poor, but honest and upright. He had only an iron ax for a living, and nothing else of value. That day, as usual, he carried an ax into the forest to collect firewood. While he was chopping enthusiastically, suddenly the handle of the broke and the blade of the ax fell into the nearby river and sank. The woodcutter was very sad because he had only one ax to make a living and had already lost it.
He was both sad and confused as to what to do when an old man with a white beard appeared and asked him what was wrong. After telling the story to the old man, the old man comforted him and promised to help him find the ax blade. The woodcutter was surprised to hear what he said. Next, the old man dove into the river to pick up the ax blade for him. For the first time, he picked up a beautiful and precious golden ax blade.
The old man asked the woodcutter:
"Is this ax yours?"
"No, this golden ax is not mine."
The old man heard that, laughed, and then dove again. The second time, he picked up a silver ax blade, which was very bright and beautiful.
