the Maya people lived on the territory of the Yucatan Peninsula and some states of modern Mexico, as well as regions of Honduras, El Salvador, Belize and Guatemala. Its history has its roots in the second millennium BC and is conditionally divided by scientists into three periods: formative — 1200 BC — 200 AD.

Like ceramics of the preclassic period in other areas of Mesoamerica, figurines of the formative period may depict a woman as a goddess; probably, the Maya identify her image with some important phenomenon closely related, for example, to fertility, as it happens in Tlatilco in the central highlands.
