For all the future rainforest explorers.

Chapter 1
--------------------
Lily had just finished planning her trip to the Amazon Rainforest for her research project about the Rainforest’s biodiversity. “I’m so excited! It’s my first time traveling alone, and I’ll get to see so many amazing creatures and plants!”, Lily squealed to her friend on the phone, as she packed. Lily packed extra pairs of clothes and an umbrella with a raincoat included in case it began to rain. She also packed lots of food, water, and emergency aid supplies in case she got lost or hurt.
Finally, she packed a handy fan to give her a cool breeze whenever she got hot in the humid, warm climate of the Amazon Rainforest. According to the forecast recorded there, temperatures could climb up to 93 degrees (Fahrenheit)! The following morning, as she trudged through security it seemed like she had to wait forever just to move an inch in line. As soon as she touched the comfy seat in the big airplane, she had already begun slowly drifting off to sleep…

Chapter 2
---------------------------
The first thing Lily did after she arrived at the Rainforest was set up camp under a remarkably tall tree giving plenty of shade near the border of the rainforest. The tallest tree in the Amazon Rainforest is called the Angelim Vermelho and is an extraordinary height of 290 feet! Afterward, she gathered her bag with all her research equipment, got a few snacks, and went on her way. After collecting lots of leaf samples, she was just about ready to head back when she heard a faint moan in the distance.
“Hello?”, she asked into the rainforest, “Who is it?”When she heard the moan again coming from above, she looked up and to her astonishment, saw the tangled in an assortment of vines, moaning for help. By the time Lily, recognized it as a spider monkey and got the idea to climb the tree and rescue the monkey, it had already begun pouring, hard. It would make it much more challenging to climb the tree, now that the trunk was slippery.

Chapter 3
----------------------------------
But then, out of nowhere, Lily heard a faint hissing sound coming from right beside her! Lily frantically twisted her head every which way to see the sound's origin until she saw an Amazon Coral Snake eyeing her, from a few bushes nearby. Once Lily caught sight of it, it began slowly slithering toward her. Then, Lily freaked out when she recalled that Amazon Coral Snakes are highly toxic and are said to have one of the most dangerous venoms of any snake on the globe. So, Lily gradually inched away, from the venomous snake, meanwhile also calling out to the snake, "I'm your friend, and I mean no harm!"
Despite her coaxing, the snake only slithered closer and closer, moving quicker by the second, flashing its toxic tongue from time to time. If Lily did not escape this poisonous crisis quickly, she might as well be on the special menu for the forest that evening!

Chapter 4
-----------------------
But then, Lily remembered that she had brought some snacks. Lily racked her brain to remember what Amazon Coral Snakes liked to eat. She finally remembered from her biology class that Amazon Coral Snakes ate smaller snakes, lizards, and small frogs. But, she had none of those, at least not at the time. She continued racking her brain until she finally got an idea. She also remembered her biology teacher, telling her that they also eat unprocessed meat. She had brought some unprocessed meat too!
So, she took out the meat waved it at the snake to get its attention on the meat, stepped back, gathered all of her arm strength, (which wasn’t much, but would do), and threw the poultry as far as she could. Just as she had expected, the snake turned around and slithered away, intimidated by the smell of the meat. By then, the rain had stopped and Lily was able to climb the now, not so slippery, trunk of the tree and rescue the baby monkey! Although she had rescued it, it was still injured. So she picked up her stuff, and set off hoping to find some healing plants. As she walked with the monkey clinging to her back, she opened her handbag and took out her research notebook hoping to find some tips on identifying healing plants.
