The origin of COVID-19
The World Health Organization said that all hypotheses of the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic were still on the table.
Last week, US authorities backed the theory that the virus originated from a lab. WHO repeatedly called for more transparency from China, saying that it was impossible to be sure about the origins of the virus until authorities shared data. A joint WHO-China team has said that a spread from wild animals was far more likely than a leak out of a human lab. However, US officials contradicted this last week, after a Wall Street Journal report had determined that the virus may have been the result of a lab leak.
According to WHO, until China is transparent and conducts all necessary investigations, all scenarios are being considered.

FRIDA is a robot which can paint. It looks like a robotic arm with a brush.
An operator tells FRIDA what concept it will paint. The robot then makes a plan of what to paint, and it prepares a palette. When the robot starts painting, an overhead camera checks its work. If FRIDA makes a mistake, it includes the splotch in the painting. It is the same thing what artists do.
It is hard to say if FRIDA is a painter or not. Painters watch the world around them and listen to what people say, and they then distill their ideas into a painting. In a way, it is what the robot does, too.

Saving the oceans
On Saturday, negotiators from more than 100 countries agreed to a UN treaty to protect the high seas. Environmental groups say that this long-awaited step will help reverse marine biodiversity losses and ensure sustainable development. Very few of the high seas that are outside national jurisdictions are subject to any protection, and pollution, acidification, and overfishing pose a growing threat. The treaty has been under discussion for 15 years, and economic interests had been a major sticking point throughout the latest round of negotiations. Developing countries were calling for a greater share of the spoils from the blue economy, including the transfer of technology.
Many see the treaty as a crucial component in global efforts to bring 30% of the world’s land and sea under protection by the end of the decade. To meet the target, nearly 11 million square kilometers of the ocean need to be put under protection every year. This means that countries need to formally adopt and ratify the treaty as quickly as possible to bring it into force.
