Sant'Arcangelo is an Italian village of about 6000 inhabitans. It's in Basilicata region, in the South of Italy

Sant'Arcangelo is situated on a hill on river Agri valley. 

It also includes an hamlet, San Brancato which is more populated and full of shops.

This is Sant'Arcangelo coat of arm depicting its Saint Patron, the Angel Saint Michele.

Saant'Arcangelo was founded by Longobards in the second half of VII century. Its name comes from the Angel Saint Michele, who is celebrated each year the 8 May.

"The Castle" ward. In XIX century there was a castle, but nowaday there aren't any ruins

           The Princes' Palace

The Princes' Palace belonged to Carafa Prince and then to Colonna Prince. It was built in 1600. In 1840 this Palace was sold to a family from Rocconova, a nearby village, but, later, it was bought by Di Gese family from Sant'Arcangelo.

Sansanelli Palace

It's also known as Torretta Sansanelli. This building was built by Sansanelli family in 1800 and now it's the site for musical festival.

Scardaccione Palace

It's an ancient palace built by the notable Scardaccione family

ORSOLEO MONASTERY

This monastery was built in 1474 by Eligio della Marra, a Prince of Stigliano and Count of Aliano.

ORSOLEO LEGEND

The legend says that the prince Eligio killed a dragon who was in the territory helped by the Vergin Mary. After, he built the monastery in her honour.
