Hungry Hungry Harry was always hungry. He ate everything and anything except if chocolate was inside. From pancakes to pizza, burgers to apples, and even a nice soft pillow to sleep on.

Hungry Hungry Harry even learned how to bake cupcakes and cakes to eat on special occasions like a friends birthday or a wedding.

One day as Hungry Hungry Harry was eating cereal and watching a cooking show on the television, he asked himself "What happens to the food in my body?"

?

Hungry Hungry Harry decided to go to his friend, Smarty Smart Sarah's house because she has an answer for every question and he had a question.

"Well hello, Harry! What are you doing over here, do you have another question?" said Smarty Smart Sarah. "Hello, Smarty Smart Sarah, I do indeed have a question!" replied back Hungry Hungry Harry.

"Well my question is, where does the food go when it enters our body?" asked Hungry Hungry Harry. "That's a great question there Harry. Well, since we are dogs we have the monogastric digestive system, a single-compartment stomach, just like humans."

The monogastric digestive system is composed of the stomach, liver, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine, and the cecum.

So, first the food enters the mouth and gets chewed up. Once you swallow, it goes through the esophagus, into the stomach. The stomach is like a short-term storage and stores the food for a short period of time while enzymes break down the food.

After being in the stomach, the food would then go into the small intestine which is where most of the digestion happens. In the small intestine the food nutrients are absorbed by the pancreas and liver.
