Victoria loved food. It was her favorite thing in the whole world. She especially loved watermelon. But lately, something strange had been happening.

Her plate was missing some of her favorite foods.
Where's my watermelon?

Victoria looked everywhere for her favorite food, but no matter where she looked, watermelon seemed to have disappeared .

Victoria was so curious about this issue, she decided to ask her teacher Mr.Richards.

Hey Mr.Richards, why are all the watermelons disappearing?

Well Victoria, right now the Earth is going through something called climate change
The weather patterns are changing, meaning rain, sun, and other weather events come at different parts of the year or don't come at all.

These different weather patterns make it hard for farmers to grow crops, just like your watermelons.

To add transportation like trucks and planes that get the food to your plate just adds to climate change, making crops harder to grow.

The world is like a big puzzle. When one piece is missing, everything else gets messed up too.

I have to do something!
Victoria was so upset about this problem, and while walking home, she decided she has to do something to save the crops.

The next day at school, all Victoria could think about was her disappearing watermelons. She wanted to do something, but was not sure what this was until she saw a patch of grass next to her playground.
I have to grow a garden!

Victoria went to ask Mr.Richards about how to build a garden.
Of course! Let's go out there now.

Mr.Richards taught Victoria everything there is to know about farming. She learned how to water the soil plant seeds and fertilize her plants and only after a few days her garden was all ready to go.

After months of growing the garden, the watermelons finally began to grow, but not everything was going smoothly. snails and other pests began to eat the crops up. It wasn't until the local gardener gave natural pesticides to deal with this problem.

The watermelons finally grew and Victoria was eager to show Mr.Richards.

Good job! I knew you could do it!

With Victoria's grown food she was able to give food to her whole school. Even ones that didn't have money to buy the same food in the grocery store. Just with this one garden, she was able to put food on the plate for those who normally would not.

After all this time Victoria could finally eat her favorite fruit every day. She did this all by just growing her own food in her very own garden. A garden that did not add to climate change one bit.

Victoria loved food. It was her favorite thing in the whole world. She especially loved watermelon. But lately, something strange had been happening.

Her plate was missing some of her favorite foods.
Where's my watermelon?
