The story follows Luis, a Cuban boy who experiences the struggles of poverty and political unrest. After moving to Guatemala, he becomes involved in an attempt to overthrow the Cuban government. The mission fails and he is imprisoned, but eventually released. He ends up in Miami, where he continues to grapple with his past.
