I wish I had wings like a bird, said Frog.
I wouldn't be here on this lumpy old log.
Beyond the pond, what fun it would be!
Beyond the pond, what wonders I'd see!
Silly old frog, you don't need to grow wings.
You already do such amazing things.
You hunt with your tongue. You leap so high.
You can dive. You can swim. You don't need to fly.
Frog hopped to a place not far from the pond.
I'm much too afraid to go out and beyond.
I wouldn't be safe. I don't have the skills
to swim across rivers and climb up steep hills.
I'm not a brave frog - I'm not daring at all.
The world is so big and I am so small.
But was Frog safe? No, not on that rock.
Poor Frog was in for a terrible shock.
With an angry scowl, with a startling shriek,
with powerful claws, with a hungry beak,
it spread its wings and soared to the sky
to drop little Frog in a nest up high.
Frog had an idea.
Look, there in the wood!
A plump little mouse that would taste quite good!
... and plopped with a splash!!
The hunter flew off in search of a mouse
leaving Frog there in the high-up house.
Frog took her chance and quick as a flash
she leapt from the nest ...
Frog swam to a log that floated nearby.
I want to go home, she said with a sigh.
I'm not a brave frog - I'm not daring or tough.
I think for today I've seen quite enough.
But was Frog safe? No, something was odd.
Frog looked at the log. She gave it a prod.
She saw that the log
had legs underneath ...
she saw it had eyes...
she saw it had ....
The creature gave Frog a friendly grin,
but Frog was too smart to be taken in.
She dived off that log as clever frog should
and paddled as far and as fast as she could.
... T e e t h ! !
Then Frog noticed something a little bit weird -
the water ahead had ... disappeared !!
It tumbled
and crashed
with a rumbling
roar.
Frog flipped
and kerflopped like
never before.
She sploshed through the
foam, then came up to float
... and scrambled aboard a little green boat.
I'm not a brave frog - I'm not daring or bold.
I'm tired and I'm wet and shivery cold.
But was Frog safe? No, Frog fell asleep,
drifting far out where the ocean was deep.
The wind blew a gale, the wild waves roared
and poor little Frog toppled overboard.
She spluttered and coughed - she kicked and flapped
then found herself caught in a horrible trap.
