Chapter 1: History
Aerospace Engineering is the design and
construction of planes and space shuttles. It has
been around since the late 19th century. These
engineers get to create some awesome machines!
Aerospace Engineers have built planes that
weigh over a half a million pounds. They have
also made spacecraft that can travel over 17,000
miles per hour. That is amazing.

There are two types. Aeronautical Engineering
consist of inside the Earth's atmosphere. An
example is a commercial jet.
The second type is Astronautical Engineering.
This covers spacecraft that leaves the Earth's
atmosphere. An example is a space shuttle.

Chapter 2: Important
People
There are many
important people who have
paved the way for flight and
space. Sir George Cayley
drew an airplane with a
wing, tail and propulsion
system. He had no engine
so he made gliders.
The Wright Brothers are
known as the fathers of
modern manned flight.
They flew the first aircraft
that was heavier than air.
They sold planes to the US
Army.

Charles A. Lindbergh
designed and flew a plane
across the Atlantic Ocean in
1927. This led to improved
metal designs that allowed
aircraft to fly farther and
faster. This made aviation
boom.
Hugo Junkers, a German,
built the first all-metal
monoplane in 1910. This type
of plane was used by Boeing.
It established the foundation of
modern air transport.
