Emily was scared, tomorrow was going to be hard for her. Emily just left her home in Mexico and came to America. She was sad that she left her home and came to a scary place where everyone spoke funny.
Tomorrow was her first day of school and she was terrified because she had no friends and didn't speak English.
“Mami, I don’t want to go to school tomorrow,” Emily said.
“Emily, you have to go to school,” Mami said.
“Emily wake up, you're going to be late to school!” her mom said.
Emily felt sick to her stomach and her hands were sweaty. She missed her friends back home.
Emily got ready for school and her mom drove her to school. She got out of the car and a teacher said something to her but she didn’t understand. The teacher helped her to her classroom and she was nervous.
Emily’s hands were so sweaty and she was nervous. She was worried that her teacher was going to speak to her funny and she wasn’t going to understand her.
“Hola Emily, welcome to your new classroom,” said her teacher.
Emily was surprised that she could understand her teacher. She was feeling a little better that her teacher could speak Spanish too.
Emily sat down in her seat and she smiled at the kids at her table. They smiled back, she was feeling less nervous. But she was still sad because she missed her home and her friends.
“Hola, what’s your name,” said a girl at her table.
“Hola, my name is Emily”.
“My name is Isabella”.
Emily was so happy that other kids were speaking Spanish too and she wasn’t the only one.
Soon it was time for specials.
“Okay, class today we are going to P.E. get in line please,” the teacher said.
Once they were in the Gym the coach was speaking funny, Emily had no idea what the coach was saying. She sat down and the coach started to talk but Emily did not know what he was saying.
Kids were getting up and jumping around.
“Emily, we have to do jumping jacks,” said Isabella
