Once upon a time there was a kingdom
And people in the kingdom were happy, as was the king
The only issue was that there was an evil wizard who seemed to bother the folks in the kingdom from time to time
For the most part, he was content to stay in his solitary, hard to reach castle, but when he caused mischief, it tended to create huge problems in the kingdom. One day, however, he went even further than he has ever gone before and destabilized the kingdom with one malicious act.
One night he took the princess captive. He then sent a letter to the king that was repeated throughout the land. It read "I am a miserable and lonely man who has never experienced joy in my life. However, the thing that made me closest to smile was music. If anyone can play me a song that is so beautiful that I can smile, I will return her to her family." The king added that he would give a million dollars to whoever could complete this task as well as label him the King's Musician.
There were three brothers who were the best musicians anyone ever heard of. The first was an amazing singer, the middle child was the greatest guitar player anyone ever heard, and the last was the best drummer in the land. Years before, they parted ways to tour the countryside alone, after breaking up in a desire to receive all the recognition and money from touring and performing themself as opposed to having the share it.
The first brother to come across this announcement was the oldest, who was a singer. He thought, "It would be nice to have that million dollars." So he went to the wizard's castle and told him that he was going to perform.
The wizard responded, "You have one chance, if you do not make me smile, I will put you in my dungeon."
He sang his favorite song as well as he'd ever sung before. He hit every note perfectly and sounded incredible. No one person had or ever will sing as well. When he finished, he looked over and saw the wizard shaking his head.
"That didn't do it for me," the wizard said. "Now to the dungeon, you go." With that, he teleported the singer to his dungeon
The next brother to hear about the challenge was the guitar player. He heard about his brother's failure and scoffed. He decided to show up and win the money, with a little bit of bragging rights. He then went to the castle and told the wizard he was going to play
The wizard responded, "You have one chance, if you do not make me smile, I will put you in my dungeon."
He played as well as he had ever played before. It was a great piece done as skillfully as it ever could. Outside of the castle, a crowd gathered to hear the amazing playing and thought that this would do it for the challenge. However, when he was finished, the wizard was still frowning and shaking his head.
"That didn't do it for me," the wizard said. "Now to the dungeon, you go." With that, he teleported the singer to his dungeon
